Lviv Folk Architecture and Lifestyle Museum

Lviv has an extremely rich cultural and architectural heritage with a dynamic lifestyle and some enigmatic venues of tourist attraction. Lviv Folk Architecture and Lifestyle Museum located in the north eastern part of the city in the Shevchenko Grove is one of the most interesting venues that have been drawing huge number of tourists every year since 1972. This museum covers an area of 59 hectares.

This museum is completely different in style as it is an open air museum. The idea of open air museum is inherited from Scandinavian style of museum.  This type of museum depicts the life style of different periods along with the household items of trade and culture.

Lviv Folk Architecture and Lifestyle Museum consists of 120 monuments representing folk architecture and 6 wooden churches. No other museum around the world consists of such a large number of religious structures. These monuments create such a fantastic atmosphere that Shevchenko Park is considered as one of the most beautiful places in Ukraine. You will notice several items of regular household and farming as well. The genuine look of the churches, bell fries and chapels is really wonderful and enchanting.

A house from the Carpathian village of Lybokhora is the oldest monument in the open air museum. This building was constructed way back in 1749. There are important buildings like wooden churches from the village Kryvk which is of 1763 of Turka district and the village of Tysovets of 1863 of Skole district. These monuments are outstanding in their richness of their forms. The monument from Kryvk is the most interesting one in Europe. The museum consists of different items of household things which are there to display portray of the old lifestyle.

Lviv Folk Architecture and Lifestyle Museum also arranges annual folk programs. It is known as Folk source and in local language it is called Z Narodnoyi Krynytsi, which is very popular among the tourists. It takes place within the museum premises. A particular kind of inspiring religious practice, called ‘Liturgies’ is performed on the occasion of Christmas and Easter, at the Lord’s wisdom church which is a church from the village of Kryvka.

Lviv Folk Architecture and Lifestyle Museum collects various items and materials from different ages with an objective to study them and to publicize the features of the rural architectures of Ukraine. It helps to provide an inclusive idea of the lifestyle since the end of 18th century till the beginning of 20th century.
